And here are your semifinalists:

Among these semifinalists are last year's championship finalists: Vanya Shivashankar, Sriram Hathwar, and Syamantak Payra.

Unfortunately, no one from Utah advanced to Semifinals this year. Great job, Michael Jones, Mikayla Hall, and Grange Simpson - Utah is proud!

Here are the words they spelled in Rounds 2 and 3:

#251 Mikayla Hall - hafiz; ranunculus (misspelled as rununculus)
#252 Grange Simpson - durwan; cornichon
#279 Michael Jones - tanha; Cypriot

According to the vocabulary results for Rounds 2 and 3, Mikayla and Grange missed one of their vocabulary words, and Michael got both of his right. Great job!

Tomorrow Semifinals will begin at 10 AM Eastern Time (8 AM where I am).

Good luck to all!

P.S. Sorry for the lack of updates this year. School ends next week, and I have a lot of projects to finish. I will write after Semifinals and after Championship Finals. If there's anything you want to know just comment, and I'll make a blog post response.

  1. How do you feel about the vocabulary addition? And how should you prepare for this exactly?

    1. I'll make a blog post on this when I have time. I actually really like the vocabulary part; it is important to know how to spell words, but it's more important to know the meanings. My friend used vocabulary.com, too. At the Bee, they give four choices for each word. For example, they could say: "Cake is a kind of..." then it would present to you four choices; for example, they could be: a. wood, b. animal, c. dessert, d. plant. The answer is C. On vocabulary.com, there are some questions like this, such as "to wait means to", then it gives four options. There are other types of vocabulary exercises on this site, as well. If you've used Word Club (on the spelling bee site), you may know that there are practice vocabulary words in Bee format. It is wise to study this way. Also, READ READ READ; if you come across a word you've never seen before, look up its definition. Also, depending on the word, you could be able to figure out the meaning of it using your knowledge of roots, combining forms, and base words in the word. I'll explain more when I make the post. If you're a speller, congrats and good luck! (P.S. I'm pretty sure you know that they wouldn't ask these words)
